Summary:Card issued by the Irish Department of External Affairs [now known as the Department of Foreign Affairs] based in Iveagh House, Dublin featuring an harp in gold at top. Text printed in black font on white card in English on recto and Cló Gaelach on verso [which is blank] and written in manuscript hand in black ballpoint pen on card on recto. Thant [known honorifically as U Thant], (1909-1974), was the third Secretary-General of the United Nations, from 1961 to 1971, and the first non-European to hold the position. He was from Myanmar [the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, previously known as Burma]. U Thant received an honorary degree from the University of Dublin (Trinity College), on 12 July 1968 also.
