Main Creator: Cuala Press
Summary:Card featuring a hand-coloured illustration of a large vase, placed on a plinth, that is filled with predominantly red coloured flowers. Elizabeth Corbet [often known as ‘Lollie’] Yeats, (1868–1940), and Susan Mary [often known as 'Lily'] Yeats, (1866-1949), separated from the Dun Emer Guild in 1908, forming The Cuala Industries; Elizabeth controlled the press while Susan Mary was responsible for the embroidery division. [The original Bute House, Brook Green, London, now demolished, belonged to the Marquis of Bute. The house was first used as a school in 1918 by Belgian refugees; four years later it became the boarding house for St Paul's Girls' School until the Second World War, when it was then requisitioned by the British Army. This card may refer to two of the teachers - a Miss Cunningham and a Dame Christian - employed at the school and residing in the boarding house, who commissioned this invitation card from the Cuala Press to send to those they wished to invite to one of their 'At Home' evenings, an open house for those interested in and involved with the arts to gather and meet].
