Summary: | The Ulster Constitution Defence Committee was established in April 1966 by Ian Paisley and Noel Doherty and was the governing body of the loyalist UPV [the Ulster Protestant Volunteers], a loyalist and fundamentalist Christian paramilitary group. The Ulster Constitution Defence Committee led an active campaign against reforms by the then Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, Terence O'Neill, (1914-1990) and the emerging civil rights movement. |
