Summary:Lettered with title "Interior of a Dancing School, on the borders of Conaught 1/10 of the Military receiving a Lesson." with publication line 'Pub. by McCleary, lower left. An officer from the cavalry regiment the Tenth Royal Hussars is depicted jumping backwards, holding his gloved hands up in front of his face, as though to protect himself from a large Irishman, who brandishes a shillelagh at him, while he dances (he has his left hand on his waist while he does so). He says to the officer "Why you Spalpeen did you say you won't Fight, or Dance in Ireland! did you ever hear of any Mankind in Conaught [Connaught] that would not do both, or all together at once, by St. Patrick you have no business here if you'r [sic, you're] not master of both; so for old decency sake I'll jest be after giving you a bit of a lesson, and Shure enough I'll soon make you Dance to the Tune of the Sprig of Shilelagh [sic, Shillelagh]!!!". On a wall is pinned a sheet with the following written on it: "Tim Dooly Tacher [Teacher] of awl [all] kinds and sorts of dansin [dancing]. N.B. CAWDR ILS [Quadrilles] on the shortest not ice. or sooner if wanted". Below this on the wall is a notice that reads "Bauls Sarvd [sarved] OUT". Beneath this is a young boy who plays the bag pipes; either side of him lie his crutches. The hussar replies "The 10th dont Daunce".
