Two days before Christopher Robson takes this photograph at the Central Bank Plaza, Dublin, homosexuality in Ireland is decriminalised. It was a vital and hard-fought victory for Irish gay and civil rights – joyfully celebrated here. Christopher calls the celebrations “wild and memorable”. We cannot identify everyone in this euphoric crowd, but Kylie O’Reilly, aka the late Junior Larkin, is the pregnant bride expecting “the birth of a new era”. Eddie McGuinness is dressed as Marie Antoinette. Martin Dunne is dancing at the right in a blue t-shirt, with photographer Derek Speirs behind him.
