Notes:Research by our Flickr Commons users established that this photograph was taken on Thursday, 17 March 1955, and that the parade started from St. Stephen’s Green at 11am. It went up one side of O'Connell Street, and then back down the other. The parade was called the Industries Parade, and was organised by the National Agricultural and Industrial Development Association. This 1955 march saw NAIDA celebrating its golden jubilee. The Irish Times newspaper estimated that there were about 250,000 spectators, and reported an incident when the parade reached College Green. A student waved a Union Flag from the parapets of Trinity College. Apparently he declined the invitation of the crowd to “come down here with that thing”!
