Summary:Letter from Padraig Pearse to Joseph McGarrity in which Pearse discusses at length the reasons for John Redmond's appeal to the Irish Volunteers to enlist in the British army in the lead up to World War One and the consquences of the resulting split in the organisation. Pearse also discusses the issues surrounding arming the Irish Volunteers and the use of force to establish Home Rule in Ulster.
