Mary O'Kelly was the daughter of Frances Tracy and Philip Whitfield Harvey, the owner of The Freeman's Journal. She married Henry Grattan junior in 1826. Philip Whitfield Harvey died the same year and this resulted in a change of ownership of the Journal. His son-in-law, Henry Grattan junior, took over ownership of the paper. He disposed of The Freeman's Journal in 1830 to Mr. Patrick Lavelle. Henry Grattan junior died in 1859 and Mary O'Kelly died in late 1866.
