Notes:Inscribed to Sir Robert M. Chambers, town clerk of Londonderry, by H. Allingham, 9th June 1914.

This book was first published by Reeves and Turner in 1887. In fact "it is probable that Allingham had [the book] printed and bound before he found a publisher for it." [Lasner], but it did then appear under Reeves and Turner's imprint in a green cloth binding. In 1890 unsold sheets of the first 1887 printing were reissued bound in parchment backed blue boards under Reeves and Turner's imprint with a new half-title and title page denoting this as the 'Second Edition' and with an additional photo plate. That therefore was not in fact properly a 'second edition' but a second issue of the first edition sheets.

A second edition proper was indeed published by Longmans in 1901, but called the 'Third Edition' on its title page, and distinguishable among other things from the issues of the first printed sheets by being printed on a different paper stock. Remaining copies of this 'Third Edition' were then later reissued with a cancelled first signature to provide a new title page with the imprint of Hugh Allingham at Ballyshannon and a preliminary advertisement learf for a revised edition of his 'History of Ballyshannon and Tirhugh' then in preparation.
