Notes: | Shemus was a pseudonym used by Ernest Forbes. Date in pencil on verso. Unpublished title is handwritten above image and reads: The autocrats. Depicts Éamon De Valera and Erskine Childers. De Valera is wearing a King's robe. Caption reads: Childers: "That's fine. They fit you as well as ever, all but the cap, but that can't be helped. Now, don't forget to say it exactly as I told you."
