Summary: | The well-loved writer, Padraic Colum (1881-1972) lived in this house around the turn of the century while his father was station-master at Sandycove. His long life was to take him from Longford/rural Cavan through Dublin to America, be a friend of Yeats and Lady Gregory, marry another writer, Mary, and produce a volume of literary work - plays, novels, biography, folklore collection and poetry: An Old Woman of the Roads; The Drover and "She moved through the Fair", perennial favourites! As part of the Colum Centenary Celebration this plaque was unveiled by Mervyn Wall on 3/12/1981. |
