Summary: | A crude measure of water clarity is obtained by a secchi disc. This white disc, named after its Italian inventor, is lowered into the water. The point at which it disappears from view is noted. In Lough Neagh the secchi depth is slightly less than 1 meter for most of the year. If little or no algae were present the depth would be around 4m. |
