Uploading this one (a) because it's gorgeous; and (b) because it's my "Out of Office" notification. Off to Clare Island for the bank holiday weekend, and the B&B looks out on this scene, I think! Will be back in Library Towers next Wednesday, and I have a great photo lined up for ye then.
Date: 1900?? (hoping policeman's/soldier's uniform might help)
NLI Ref.: L_ROY_06775
In other news, DannyM8 recently suggested to me that ye all might be interested in the stats for our photos here on Flickr, so here goes:

Nice! Will you be pretending to be a pirate? :) Went there a few years ago on the recommendation by the Saw Docs... a line in the song mentions skinny dipping. Well I dipped my big toe into that water and it dropped off through cold and sheer fright. No skinny dipping for me! Apart from the barrels and the clothes, it looks the same!

Didn't we have a companion piece to this a few months back? Lovely photo. That scene in the background between the harbour walls is like something out of a Constable painting.

@sueparry Always pretend to be a pirate would be my Modus Operandi! Will have to try to get a shot from the same angle... :)

Strange hat on the gent to left. Military? And we have a boy who appears to be wearing a dress and some sort of white pinafore. But he's much too old for that dressing small boys as girls routine discussed yesterday.

@nlireland Enjoy the break Carol and I hope that the weather will be kind to you. Just back from Cornwall and it was just mixed but with wellies and waterproofs you can still enjoy yourself. As @64555638@N00 says we did have some related photos some time ago with (I think) the Prince of Wales and party of artists etc. who had landed there. The quality of this is very good and I will have to do a search on when the peelers wore pilboxes.

@eyelightfilms Not in the West and North-West! Look at the age of the boys in this circa 1892 photo...

What a great wee scene! Have a great break and I hope the weather is kind. (Green as a pea here - I have never been to Clare Island and it looks beautiful) Those stacked barrels are amazing!

Hi there! Sitting on the beach on Clare Island looking at this very view. It's a million times better in the flesh and strangely unchanged. Will now proceed to drive myself demented trying to get a shot from the same angle...

@beachcomberaustralia As they'd say down in Clare Island "Sure God bless your innocence" I suspect that @blackpoolbeach is right and the bould Carol skived off to London to watch the Mighty Katie take her gold. She'll probably plead like the famous "Wrong Way Corrigan" that she went the wrong way by accident;-0
