Summary:Elizabeth [Gunning], Duchess of Argyll, (1734-1790), wife of John Campbell, 5th Duke of Argyll, previously married to James, 6th Duke of Hamilton, daughter of John Gunning of Co. Roscommon, celebrated beauty ; half-length, nearly to front, face slightly to left, hair in curls at back, low bodice trimmed with ribbons, ermine mantle fastened at shoulders by strings of pearls ; oval frame cut in rectangle.
