Summary: | Catherine [better known as Kitty] Gunning, (1735-1773), the youngest of the celebrated Gunning sisters; later wife of Robert Travis. Half-length, directed and looking towards front, facing slightly to right, earrings, ribbons at back of head, low dress, sash and armlets twisted with pearls; oval frame cut in rectangle. With three lines underneath image attributed to the Duchess of Hamilton and Countess of Coventry: "This youngest Grace, so like her sisters frame, her kindred features tell from whence she came, 'tis needless once to mention Gunning's name". |
