Hogan, / 56 Henry St., / Dublin." lower right) of RIC Sergeant pointing at the back of the vehicle where the bullet entered Lord French's (Field Marshal John Denton Pinkstone French, then British Viceroy, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and Supreme Commander of the British Army in Ireland) motor car on 19 December 1919. This was known as the Ashtown ambush - an unsuccessful assassination attempt led by Paddy Daly and ten volunteers of the IRA, (including Seán Treacy, Seamus Robinson, Seán Hogan, Joe Leonard, Martin Savage and Dan Breen) on Lord French as he made his way from Ashtown railway station (having returned from Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon) to the Phoenix Park.

Featured in the National Library of Ireland's "From Ballots to Bullets, Ireland 1918-1919" exhibition at the National Photographic Archive, Dublin, 2018-2019.
