The Ballet Sweeney Todd was composed in 1959 and first performed by members of the Royal Ballet and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, conducted by John Lanchbery, at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 10th December 1959. The Concert Suite was drawn from the complete ballet score in 1984 by David Ellis in association with the composer.
