Summary: | Broadside poster promoting the Gaelic League's 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' [then spelt 'Seachtmhain na Gaeilge'] Irish Language Week fundraising efforts. The poster depicts two female figues - one representing Éire, the other 'West Britain'. Éire is dressed in a red robe that features a decorative interlace design at the top; she holds a spear in her hand and ribbons that connect her to ships dotted around the coast of Ireland. West Britain, is dressed in the Union Jack and crouches on the east coast of Ireland looking towards England with outstretched palm. The artist has signed the initials of her name in Irish on the broadside poster [Frances Georgiana Chenevix Trench was generally known known as Cesca Trench; S. T. stands for her name in Irish which was Sadhbh Trínseach]. |
