Notes:Dr. John St. Patrick Cowell was born in Sligo. He went on to study at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin and then went to London during the Second World War. He was involved in the scheme to eradicate tuberculosis in Ireland during the 1940's and 1950's at St. Ultain's Hospital, Dublin. He was also a Gate actor and lectured and wrote on historical topics, theatre etc.
