Notes: | Transcript in three volumes of the Book of Cavan compiled originally by Chevalier Thomas O'Gorman (1725-1808) for County Alexander O'Reilly of Cavan (1725-1794), a general in the Spanish army and Governor of Louisiana (1769-1770), a descendant of the Princes of Breffiny, ca. 1770. Volume 1: Detailed history of the O'Reilly's, genealogical material and succession lists, in Irish and English, together with some Irish verse. Also newscutting concerning a lawsuit over ownership fo the manuscript, 1849, and a manuscript note concerning its acquisition by Myles John O'Reilly in 1860. Volume 2: Genealogies and successions lists relating to the O'Reillys, mainly in England but with some Irish materials. Volume 3: Genealogies and annalistics materials, together with some notes and transcripts of letters by Myles John O'Reilly including one from him to a lady in Spain, n.d.
