Oscar Wilde, (1854-1900), playwright and author, whole-length, reclining on couch with right arm under cushion supporting his back, left arm draped across back of coach, holding cigarette in his left hand. In front of him sits Clifford Bax, (1886-1962), as a child, whole-length, sitting on a stool, with back turned and facing Oscar Wilde on couch. Inscribed in ink underneath: "Did you notice an amusingly muddled reporter's paragraph in the Daily Telegraph describing, in words strangely familiar to me, an interview between Clifford Bax and Oscar Wilde, in which the latter disclosed his idea of a yellow scheme for the costumes in 'Salome'? That interview must have taken place in 1902. Does the above scribble recall it to you?".
