| Summary: | A so-called "Black Letter" inscription painted beneath a picture of what could be St. Sebastian on the north wall of the choir of the twelfth/thirteenth century abbey of Knockmoy, County Galway, Ireland. The word "Criminal" written on the image is probably for the figure of St. Sebastian. According to the Crawford article, reference and page numbers stated on the facing page for 2122 TX (1) 77, the inscription is read as: "Orate p aiab malachie i nollain et conhuir hi eddichan qui me fieri fecerunt". This is translated as: "Pray for the souls of Malachie O'Nollain and Conhuir O'Eddichan, who had me made". Despite the fact that these two named people have not been identified, the inscription may well date to the fifteenth century |
