Drawn by Austin Cooper perhaps when he was touring the country gathering money from area tax collectors, or a Paymaster to the Civil and Military Establishments

In his diary for May 14th, 1781, preserved in NLI Ms. Acc. 4841, page 1 and published in Liam Price's book about Austin Cooper, page 11, Cooper remarked that, buried among the ruins of the abbey 'is the Tomb of a Bp. (I suppose Wellesley) in relievo, in his Robes, with a Canopy over his head. It is broke across at the Neck & the lower part is scarcely to be seen'
