Although not the first edition - the original was published by Macmillan in 1914 - it is the first edition with this design and these illustrations. Inscribed "John, Count McCormack / May 1st 1931 / San Patrizio / Hollywood / California." It is the signature of the famous Irish tenor, John [Francis] Count McCormack (1884-1945), celebrated for his performances of the operatic and popular song repertoires, and renowned for his diction and breath control. He was also a Papal Count. He became a naturalized American citizen before returning to live in Ireland. McCormack lived at San Patrizio, Hollywood, California, between the years 1930 - 1938.
