National Library Reports on Private Collections.
In 1943 Sir John Ainsworth was appointed as inspector of manuscripts with the Irish Manuscripts Commission (later with the NLI). He wrote a series of reports on manuscripts in private keeping. Since the compilation of his reports, the majority of these private collections have now been acquired by National Library of Ireland.
