Kilmainham Papers.
The "Kilmainham Papers" are an important collection of 18th and 19th century British military records which were discovered in the General Headquarters of the British Army in Ireland at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, just after the British evacuated Ireland in 1922. These comprise of 389 large folio volumes and contain the correspondence and papers of the Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces in Ireland from 1780 to 1894, and cover every branch of branch of the Service, including militia, medical, personel, recruitment, encampments, movement of troops, etc. They were transferred from the Ministry of Defence to the National Library of Ireland in 1936.
