Notes:Marina Carr was born in Dublin but spent the majority of her childhood in County Offaly. Influenced by the landscape of the midlands of Ireland, Marina Carr draws on stories and characters from Greek Mythology to produce plays that deal with themes of motherhood, sexuality, gender and the absurd. Her papers in the National Library of Ireland includes drafts for her plays including ‘Ullaloo’, ‘The Mai’, ‘Portia Coughlan’ and many others as well as drafts of short stories, ideas for films and poetry. The collection also contains correspondence mostly relating to Carr’s career as a playwright, along with items relating to performances of her plays such as programmes of events and promotional posters.
