Notes:Luíse Ghabhánach Ní Dhubhthaigh was born in France in 1884 and was the daughter of Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, founder and editor of The Nation newspaper. Her brother was George Gavan Duffy, one of the plenipotentiaries sent to negotiate with the British Government in 1921 and one of the five signatories of the treaty that was the outcome of the negotiations. He was later President of the High Court. Louise Gavan Duffy came to live in Ireland in 1907 and studied the Irish language both in Dublin and in the Gaeltacht and also trained to be a teacher. She taught for a time at Pearse's school for girls, Scoil Íde in Ranelagh. She was a member of Cumann na mBan and helped out in the GPO in 1916. The following year she founded Scoil Bhríde, an all-Irish National School, which was to be her main life's work. She died in 1969.
