After George Cruikshank's "Fashionables of 1817" published 4 August 1817 by S.W. Fores, 50 Piccadilly, London; see BM Satires 12949. This print lettered with title "Monstrosities of 1817" and publication line "Dublin. Pub. by McCleary, Grafton St." inscribed within plate. An affected couple are depicted walking from left to right, the man bending from his waist with crooked elbows the woman taking his left arm. He holds a thin cane in one (yellow coloured) gloved hand, his head emerging from a swathed cravat and very high collar entirely covering his neck and cheeks; his curled hair projects above it and he wears a black hat with a low crown. He wears tight, high-waisted black coat with small tails, very wide blue trousers that are strapped over black boots with high heels, to which large golden spurs are attached. The lady wears an enormous bonnet with high cylindrical crown, trimmed with flowers and foliage, a projecting scoop and a chin-strap. She wears a short pink and white dress with a very high waist and low cut bodice, with long white coloured sleeves. She wears grey coloured gloves and pink coloured pumps. She projects her head and bosom forward as she walks and carries a small reticule.
