Description: | Articles and speeches about Barrie Cooke, 1959-1999. The material comprises pieces written by John Montague: drafts of “The painting of Barrie Cooke”/ “Pagan Mystic” accompanied by two copies of ‘The Dubliner’, 1964 with a letter enclosed relating to payment for the article; and “The Irish Imagination 1959-1971", 1971. Also included are articles and pamphlets by Aidan Dunne, such as “The Moment of Seeing”, 1984, and “His Barrie Cooke”, 1986. The latter is accompanied by a catalogue of Cooke's exhibition at the 'Douglas Hyde Gallery' with draft notes of a speech by Montague for its launch, 1986. Material relating to exhibitions of Cooke’s work, such as catalogues and leaflets, covering the years between 1962-1991. Exhibition venues include: 'The Ritchie Hendriks Gallery'; 'Osborne Gallery' (New York); 'The Butler Gallery at Kilkenny Castle'; 'Riverrun Gallery'; 'Kerlin Gallery'; 'Galerie Inart' (Amsterdam); and 'The Hendriks Gallery'. Material relating to the Galway Arts Festival and Kilkenny Arts Festival are also included. Other artists work is also enclosed within the correspondence, such as catalogues and articles concerning: Patrick Collins; T. P. Flanagan; Edward Delaney, 1977; David Hendricks; and Sidney Nolan, 1976-1986. Newspaper articles gathered and annotated by John Montague. |
