Description:The file is composed mainly of material regarding the ‘James Joyce Centenary Commemoration Conference’, American University of Beirut, 2-5 February 1982. Enclosed are conference related letters, typescript and handwritten pieces of prose relating to Joyce. The letters comprise correspondence from: Professor Maurice Harmon in UCD asking Montague to contribute a piece of writing on Joyce, 22 October 1981; and Claude Jacquet, Université De Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle, requesting Montague to contribute articles and attend conferences, 1982-1987. Typescript and handwritten essays by Montague about Joyce include: “Work Your Progress”; “Father of Authors”, “Rejoycing”; “Pastmaster”; “The Hard Life”; and “Dublin’s Dante”. Lastly, there are requests from ‘Faber and Faber’ and the’ Guardian’ for Montague to review ‘Letters of James Joyce: Volumes I and II’, alongside a collection of newspaper clippings on Joyce, 1966.
