After George Cruickshanks' 'A Nice Gentleman', published on 12 September 1818 by S.W. Fores, 50 Piccadilly', see BM Satires 13056. Lettered with title underneath image, "A Nice Gentleman - An Exquisite Dandy. Prodigious!!” with publication line: "Pub.d by McCleary 32 Nassau St. Dublin”. An ungainly man, looking and walking to the left with a stoop, has features and wears clothing inscribed with disparaging inscriptions and the names of food - his red carbuncled rose is 'Currant Jelly', the shallow broad-brimmed hat he wears 'Calves Head Jelly' and 'Pancake'; the cravat which covers neck, cheek and chin is labelled 'Puff Paste'; his gloves 'Ladies Fingers'; his loose short trousers are 'White Sugar Bags'; his handkerchief 'Blow Monge' and the long spurs on his boots 'Gilt Gingerbread'.
