Papers of the Anti-Amendment Campaign (AAC) which was formed in April 1982 to oppose the proposed amendment to the Irish Constitution to ban abortion in Ireland. The collection comprises of correspondence, petitions, minutes of meetings, statements, press releases, published material including leaflets and pamphlets, and newspaper articles relating to the campaign, 1982-1983.

Notes:	Material originally filed in manila folders. Contents of files retained during the rehousing, sorting and cataloguing of the collection. The Eighth Amendment of the Constitution Act 1983 was an amendment to the Constitution of Ireland which inserted a subsection recognising the equal right to life of the pregnant woman and the unborn. It was approved by referendum on 7th September 1983 and signed into law on 7th October 1983. The bill to amend the constitution was introduced on 2nd November 1982 by Fianna Fáil. The referendum was supported by the Pro-Life Amendment Campaign, Fianna Fáil, some members of Fine Gael and the Catholic hierarchy. It was opposed by various groups under the umbrella name of the Anti-Amendment Campaign (AAC), including Mary Robinson, feminist campaigners and trade unions. Labour, Sinn Féin, the Workers' Party and the Irish Council of Churches (representing the main Protestant churches) campaigned against it. The Eighth Amendment was repealed in 2018.
