Letter from Bessie Magee to Mary Hutton,
1905 April 10.
Magee thanks Mrs. Hutton for journals she sent out, and says she has been trying to read an article in Italian entitled 'Hibernica'. She describes attending a private papal audience, giving details of the decor and furnishings of the Vatican palace, and the pope's demeanor in greeting everyone there. She also got a glimpse of the King of Italy at one of the hotels in Rome. She gives some family news, and says she would like to come home, but jobs in Ireland are few and far between.

Notes: | The letter is written from 265 Via Nomentana, Rome, which is the address of the Anglo-American Nursing Home. The paper is very light and, as Magee has written on the front and back of the first sheet, the bleed through of ink makes it difficult to read. Bessie Magee was sister to William Kirkpatrick Magee (John Eglinton). Physical description: 1 item (3 sheets). more |
