Mary Hutton Papers,

1884-1942.

Collection consists of correspondence from members of Hutton family as well as significant literary and political figures. Included in this collection are letters from Alice Stopford Green, Lady Gregory, Tomás Ó Conceannainn, Alice Milligan and Sinéad De Valera. Along with 14 letters from Roger Casement, mostly regarding his stay in Brazil. Followed by correspondence from Douglas Hyde, regarding his literary work. Hyde supported a proposal that Mary Hutton be elected to membership of the Royal Irish Academy in 1910, but the application was unsuccessful. Collection also includes correspondence from Padraic Pearse, mostly concerning St. Edna's School that Mary Hutton was supporting financially. The last part holds correspondence from Kuno Meyer, distinguished scholar of Celtic Studies, who contributed to Mary Hutton's improvement of fluency in Irish and her involvement in Gaelic League.
