Notes: | Including photograph of Major W. Sherlock Lennon (MS 50,182/4) and bullet (MS 50,182/5). Major William Sherlock Lennon was born in 1880. He was a District Inspector in the Royal Irish Constabulary at the outbreak of the First World War and immediately volunteered, being seconded in November 1914 as a Captain in the 6th Dublin Fusiliers for the duration. He was wounded at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, over the 15th/16th August weekend in 1915 when 80% of their officers became casualities. His regiment found themselves in Dublin at the outbreak of the Easter Rising and Lennon was appointed Temporary Commandant of Kilmainham Gaol. Physical description: 5 items. more |
