| Description: | Henrietta Mary Deane was the daughter of Sir Thomas Newenham Deane and later the wife of Caesar Litton Falkiner. Journals describe family trips to Italy via France and Switzerland. MS 42,331/1: 1st journal (March 11th to May 29th) has flowers pressed between a number of pages at the rear, including a note to state that it came from Pompeii in March 1881. Included are sketches of buildings and a list of the hotels that they stayed in. Inscribed "H. M. Deane Jr. / Dorset Lodge / Killiney / County Dublin / Ireland". MS 42,331/2: 2nd journal (Sept. 30th 1882 - April 7th 1883) with the inscription "Henrietta Mary Dean / her journal (aged 18) / Sept. 24th 1882 / & nobody to read it. / So don't.". |
