Letter from W.J.M. Starkie to Alice Stopford Green regarding the history curriculum in Irish schools,
1916 Dec. 26.
Starkie writes that no new rules have been set for school books but that the rules always followed have been that histories must contain nothing calculated to excite political or religious bitterness. He writes that he wishes "people who get up petitions would take some trouble to ascertain facts." and "heaven save us from histrionics". He wishes her a happy new year as "1916 has brought to you, as to us, nothing but sorrow".
