Circular from William O'Brien, secretary of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, to secretaries of other branches, announcing the disaffiliation of the Union from the Irish Labour Party due to James Larkin's appointment as candidate to same,

1944 January 15.

O'Brien writes that Larkin's previous and current comments "cause serious damage to the Trade Union and Labour Movement" and that his appointment to the Labour Party Administrative Council, and the subsequent publication of his comments in the 'New Leader' paper, leave the I.T.G.W.U. no choice but to distance themselves from the Party.
