O'Casey thanks McCarthy for her cards, notes and magazines. He says he's been 14 weeks in hospital, having had two operations and a bout of pneumonia; and that he has been ordered from all work, including letter writing. He talks about the kind nurses he met in hospital, two of whom were Irish.
