O'Casey tells McCarthy that he is very busy and will write a longer letter when time permits. He is working on proof pages for the book of the play (Bishop's Bonfire), answering phone calls from Dublin about the production and drafting four broadcasts for Radio Éireann. His wife and daughter are about to fly to Dublin for the first night. He refers to McCarthy's having just left the sweet orange groves of Florida for the turrets of New York.

The first production of 'The Bishop's Bonfire' was on 28th February 1955 at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, produced by Cyril Cusack Productions, and directed by Tyrone Guthrie.
