The Stradbally estate in Queen's County was granted to the Cosby family in the 16th century (to Francis Cosby in 1562). Henry Grattan senior received £50,000 from the Irish parliament in 1782, with which he bought the Stradbally estate and a house at Tinnehinch, Co. Wicklow. Henry junior's daughter Pauline married within the Bellew family of Mount Bellew, Co. Galway in 1858 and inherited the estates the following year. The properties went down to Sir Henry Grattan Bellew in the early 20th century (1908). The Grattan Bellews also retained ownership of a large estate of land in both Co. Galway and Co. Roscommon until the early 20th century. The family's remaining estate was acquired by the Irish Land Commission in 1937 and the house demolished. The House at Tinnehinch was destroyed in the 1950s.
