1897.

Sir Alfred Irwin entered the Indian Civil Service in the Punjab in 1876. He became Deputy Commissioner in 1886 and then Commissioner in 1898 before becoming Acting Judge, Chief Court, Burma, in 1902. He became member of the Legislative Council in Burma and Acting Judicial Commissioner, Upper Burma in 1903. He rose to be Active Chief Judge of Burma by 1908 before retiring in 1909 to Ailesbury Road, Dublin.
