In the aftermath of the Easter Rising in Ireland, over 3,000 people were arrested for their involvement in the Rising. The majority were transported to prisons in England and Wales. The British Government set up the Advisory Committee in June 1916 and held numerous sittings at which the prisoners were allowed to state their case.
