Writes: "...Business is very bad these times. No money going at all. There is some new Party started in the city in view of the elections. They call it the Progressive Association. You'll recognise such names as Stanley Harrington, Tom Dowdall, J.C. Foley & I think Haughton. But nobody seems interested. That's one thing that struck me most since I came home - the general apathy about everything. Nobody is doing anything as far as I can see, and nobody seems to know anything either, nor do they want to know anything".
