Fred Cronin was transport officer to the Cork. No. 1 Brigade of the IRA for a time around 1920. His experience with the family firm of undertakers R. Cronin, Funeral & General Posting Establishment, St. Finbarr's Place & Sullivan's Quay Cork, gave him considerable knowledge of transport organisation in the Munster region.
