Letter from James Pearse, 5 Parnell Place, Grand Canal, Dublin, to Margaret Brady regarding their relationship and encouraging her to ger her 'carte' [photograph] taken,
undated.
Writes "The other day one of the men said he was sorry to see me so poorly and then added jokingly, you want someone to take care of you. Why said I, my landlady is one of the kindest creatures alive. Ah' says he, I mean a wife. Perhaps I said you know some angel in the form of a woman who would have compassion upon me. I don't know much about angels said he, "but I have seen in at the paper shop below a grand looking young woman with dark hair and eyes, no nonsense about her plump and rosey [sic], she seems homely yet bright and full of life. That is the sort of woman I should go in for" See here I could not stand it any longer. I had to walk away, wondering what he would say if he could read what I had in my pocket (now don't you set your [...] at him because he is married)".
