Inscribed in ink on first page: Some experiences during the year 1880. Half bound album with black and gold spine, dark blue leather boards, 79 pages with ca. 77 pages of illustration, 4 pages torn out. C.W. Cole accompanied HRH the Duke of Edinburgh on his "Relief of Irish Distress" tour of the West and South coast of Ireland in 1880. He did sketches of the visit thus depicting the way of life in Ireland at the time. Sketches include views around County Galway, County Kerry, County Westmeath, England, Scotland and Spain

C.W. Cole contributed to The Graphic from April 1880, when he was appointed as special artist to report on events including the tour of Ireland of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. Some of the sketches were published, in slightly altered form, as wood engravings in The Graphic from April 24th to May 15th 1880.He also covered the so-called Boycott Relief Expedition (12-26 November 1880) at Lough Mask, County Mayo for 'The Graphic'.0
