Division - between medical, legal & religious opinion An End - to certain types of contraceptives presently used by older women & women with health problems Change - in current mdeical practise, which could put women's lives at risk. Important Facts - There has been opposition to this amendment even by eminent clergy within the Catholic Church - Abortion is already a criminal offence & will continue to be, whether the amendment is defeated or passed [.] Vote No to leave things as they are. Anti-Amendment Campaign". A vote for the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland which introduced a constitutional ban on abortion by recognising the right to life of an unborn child was effected by the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution Act in 1983, [approved by referendum on 7 September 1983] and was signed into law on the 7 October of the same year.
