Sargent Governor A proclamation 1971: Whereas, The people of America have long striven to bring about human dignity and equality for all men by actively seeking an end to discrimination; and whereas, the (IRAC) Irish Republican Aid Committee and other freedom movements have provided a vital progressive force with the promise of furthering the cause of social justice in Ireland; and whereas, we in Massachusetts together with our fellow Americans are concerned with the plight of Irish men and women presently denied basic civil rights and support efforts to end their humiliation and oppression; now, therefore, I, Francis W. Sargeant, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in accordance with Chapter 710 of the Acts of 1971, do hereby proclaim Social Justice For Ireland Day October 2, 1971 and urge the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this day by participating fittingly in its observance. Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and seventy-one, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and ninety-sixth.
